May 26 Curborough results and reviewCurbourgh in May was wet wet , occasionally dry and wet.
My first practice run was one to forget, coming just after a shower, i slipped and skidded my way around in an abysmal 76.03, this was the third out 22 slowest.
a quick check of tyre pressures found the rears fine at 17, but the frotns where way out being 14 and 12 respectively.
Second practice and it was just starting to dry out, the car felt much better and a 64.75 on a damp circuit wasn't too bad.THroughout the practice class 3 runners got very different conditions and so times where not indicative of final positions.
As an early runner I was one of the first out in my class, unfortunatlty the course was drying all the time and my time of 64.71 was only good enough for 4th, with Adrian having timing problems and Dave going off. Ahead was David Nelson, Jeff Smith and Michael Calvert.
T2 was virtually dry, but the circuit wasn't going to yield any records, as it was still greasyish in places and very windy. I put in a 62.30 which was good enough for 4th behind the usual suspects.
Analysis of my perromance afterwards revealed I probably lost out on the first corner with a little confidence touch of the breaks effecting my time. The car besides that behaved great and running a fully soft front ARB whihc caused some problems around the first corner but did give me very good turn in for fradley and the hairpin.
P1 = 76.03
P2 = 64.75 T1 = 64.71 T2 = 62.30 full scores at http://www.lotus7club.co.uk/ck/2006_Curborough_May.htm Llandow reviewSlightly late - here is a quick review of the Llandow sprint.
The day before had been a trackday and so it was a good day to refresh yourself with the circuit, braking & turning points, and have a bit of fun.
There wasn't a massive turn out for the sprint, about 50, so it meant that the chance of 3 or 4 timed runs was highly likely.
The first run was never going to set the world on fire and I did a rather conservative 83.38, a much tidier 2nd run and an 81.70 would have been good enough for a PB (previous best 81.86)
T1 was run before lunch and I felt rather on it and set a time of 81.46, which was a PB, so objective 1 met, David Nelson pulverised the class record down to 78.67 and Jeff Smith was a smidgeon a head on 81.47. Neither Adrian Williams or Dave McFarlane recorded a time.
T2 was blown about 50 yards fromthe start as I little too much right foot meant some serious sideways action coming out of the bus stop, this impacted my speed and time all the way around to the bottom chicane, knowing the lap was ruined I psuhed on and tried a few new things and recorded a 81.92. This was quite a surprisingly good time as I had expected to loose more time than that. Both Adrian and Dave recorded faster times but Jeff was only a fraction faster so now I was down to fith but now 0.05s behind him.
Jeff had upgraded his car over the winter with proper tyres, lsd and 6 speed box and had found some serious speed.
T3 was my best of the day 81.28 another PB, and now above Jeff just. The lap felt good, more in control than the previous and still with some time to come off.
We did manage a T4 but i ruined it locking up coming into the bus stop and a recorded 81.98, however jeff couldn't improve so 4th place and a score of 18.27.
Runs P1 = 83.38
P2 = 81.70 T1 = 81.49 T2 = 81.92 T3 = 81.28 T4 = 81.98 full results can be found at http://www.lotus7club.co.uk/ck/2006_llandow.htm rob May 02 Llandow resultManaged a pb of 81.29 (down from 81.86), however that was only good enough for 4th place over 2.5s off the pace
will get a full report out soon
rob December 08 always the bridesmaid
I have done a total of 22 events since I started sprinting and hillclimbing, and I am yet to win an event
So not only have I missed out on top spot 7 times being runner up, I have just missed out on a 'podium' 8 times as well.
The closest I have got to first place was at Wiscombe in 2004 where i was 0.44s behind David Nelson
Added to this I have finished 4th overall for the last 2 years in class 3 of the championship...
